Risk of Rain is an action platformer with roguelike elements. These are suggestions, and improvements of Risk of Rain 2 for Steam Deck probably aren't limited to those. That allows much more control options than what is currently possible in Risk of Rain 2, but needs to be implemented not badly. Steam Input API allows mapping controls to different controllers in Steam Input settings, automatic switching of controls for different situations (like menu, general gameplay, inventory), and can give the correct glyphs for button prompts to the game. ![]() That needs more work, but allows better experience. This could be resolved with what I believe are simple fixes, that keyboard and mouse prompts don't show as easily and that mouse cursor in menu appears in its last position.Īn other way to improve controls on Steam Deck is that the game would support Steam Input API. Also, navigating the menus with mixed inputs is hard because the mouse cursor often jumps to the centre of the screen. ![]() ![]() Risk of Rain is playable this way, but it inconsistently shows sometimes keyboard and mouse prompts and sometimes controller prompts. The best easy thing for controlling the game with touchpads and motion sensors is to set a touchpad or the gyroscope to output mouse movement, while keeping most inputs default (Xinput). That means that the game in its current state may register Xinput inputs and mouse inputs at the same time, and it doesn't handle it optimally. But I think that the best experience on Steam Deck requires that the buttons sticks, touchpads, and motion sensors can be used for controlling the game. Risk of Rain 2 is verified for Steam Deck. ![]()
